Progressive politics and the multilateral order in the US and Europe
Stefan Liebich was a directly elected member of the Bundestag (the German national parliament) for the LEFT from 2009 to 2021, and long-time member of the Foreign Affairs committee of the Bundestag. After leaving elected office, he became an RLS Fellow on North American Affairs and developed a project called “Progressive America“. With this project, he started building understanding and bridges between progressives in the US and Europe.
On August 24th, Stefan Liebich joined us for a 1 hour webinar to reflect on the state of progressive America and the meaning for the US role in the international multilateral order. Two years after Trump and in the midst of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine the question remains: can and will the UN system survive and in which form(s)?
We also asked Stefan one of the key questions in international debate: how did Germany get the policy towards Russia so wrong? What was the perspective of the LEFT, and what lessons can be learned from the disastrous misjudgment.
